WHAT HAPPENED TO IDLE NO MORE?

ON THIS PICTURE FROM "IDLE NO MORE" PROTESTS: IT IS NOW TWO YEARS SINCE THE FIRST PROTESTS.

What happened to Idle No More?  No one got the message because there was no message, no fliers, no protest signs, no discussions, no actual leadership: nothing but dancing and drumming.  Little to no media attention.  Zero mainstream media attention.  We saw the protests in support of IDLE NO MORE in malls and in public spaces.  Most people had no idea what all of the "Indian dancing and singing" was all about; and there was no real attempt to educate people on what it was all about.  It was as if our people were illiterate on the concept of protest: to educate on what the protest is about.  All of the round dancing and drumming would have been more effective if we had been at least saying and singing: GET THE FUCK OFF OUR LANDS EUROPEANS!  GET THE FUCK OFF OUR LANDS EUROPEANS!

Mexica Movement did our part part in support with protests at the Canadian consulate in Los Angeles and the Canadian Embassy (equivalent) in London, England.  We did it with protests, protest signs, fliers, discussions, and by promoting knowledge on the issues in Canada.  We were waiting to be led by the leaders.  We waited, and waited.  But the "leaders" of Idle No More became idle real quick and turned environmentalists and revealed their feminist agenda and their collaboration with apologists for European crimes.  It was an opportunity missed: a good time to link up all of our people across our continent, but we were led into another dead end by these "leaders", like many others in the past, who are ignorant of history and who collaborate with colonialism and genocide.

During those 6 months that we did our protests we saw almost no support from "Native Americans" or Danzantes, and what little we heard from the few "gatherings" outside of our protest was all of dancing and singing and drumming and lots of New Age nonsense, lots of feminist agenda, lots more of dancing, singing, drumming, but no messages or education against colonialism.

We heard one of the "leaders", Sylvia McAdam, say in a London presentation: "We need to leave the past in the past."   She sounded just like a European squatter.  1 of the 4 "leaders" was a European squatter woman (she had more say than any of our own people).  They insisted that it was a woman's agenda and that they were the leaders, no men need apply.  We can't have European agendas and European approaches for the liberation of all Nican Tlaca across our continent.  And this was certainly not a call for justice for our people or a call for liberation.  It was a New Age and Feminist call for the agenda of leaving everything exactly the same, with a New Age and Feminist flavor.  We have a lot to learn from this failure.
